The Story Behind Teatree & Pine

On a grey November day, I was sitting in my bedroom contemplating a long-ago dream: to one day own a shop akin to the ones lining Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Unique displays of brilliant artwork, handmade clothing, organic skin products and stunning pottery stood along the avenue, each item more beautiful than the last. Seeing this for the first time at sixteen, I thought: I want to have a shop of my own. I began to imagine what it would be like to own a quaint little store, bright with white walls adorned with everything I love: home decor, art, photography, and handmade clothing items. That dream, among many others, has never ceased.

It was 2015 when the thought to actually give it a try came to mind. I had just finished college and was having a hard time finding a job, and as a result, I felt creatively stunted. During my final year of college, I learned how to knit and thought: why not start here? I made my first scarf for the shop, and having little knowledge of photography at the time, I took dimly-lit, low-quality photos of myself wearing it and made my first listing. The rest was history.

Seven years later, Teatree & Pine has evolved into much more than that first knitted scarf. It houses handmade items such as photo & art prints, home decor, knits (and now presets!) that consider the role of subtle color as the focal element in any wardrobe or setting. Each product is crafted with specific palettes in mind: ambient, elemental tones to compliment individual style.

When creating a photograph, painting, or knits, the intention is to elicit an image of something meaningful in the mind of the onlooker: muted tones like clay, sand and stone, fields of wheat, grey autumn skies─and to come as close as possible to embodying what it feels like to be surrounded by those things.

I believe that the items we wear and the way we decorate our homes are a reflection of who we are, which is what started my passion for owning a shop in the first place.

This scarf is the most beautiful color I've ever seen and is the perfect weight for early fall weather. I am extremely obsessed with it. It pairs well with literally anything.
